The anterior approach reaches the hip from the front, working between the muscles rather than cutting through them. A bikini-incision is placed in the natural crease of the hip.

A HANA® surgical table helps position the leg during surgery, while intraoperative X-ray guidance assists with accurate implant positioning and restoration of leg length and hip anatomy.

Knee Replacement

The type of knee replacement depends on where the arthritis is located, how extensive it is, and the individual patient.

Total knee replacement replaces the damaged surfaces of the knee when arthritis affects multiple areas of the joint.

Partial knee replacement replaces only the damaged portion, preserving the healthy parts of the knee.

Revision surgery involves addressing problems that arise after a previous joint replacement. These may include loosening, instability, infection, fractures around the implant, or problems with implant position or leg length. Depending on the problem, some or all of the original joint replacement may need to be replaced or reconstructed.

When should I consider surgery for joint pain?

Surgery is usually recommended when non-surgical treatments—such as physiotherapy, medication, or lifestyle adjustments—no longer provide relief, and joint pain significantly impacts your daily mobility and quality of life.

Are there any restrictions after surgery?

No. Once you have recovered, there are no specific long-term restrictions. The goal is to return to the activities you enjoy without limitations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical recovery time after a hip or knee replacement?

Most patients leave hospital the same day or the day after surgery. They notice significant improvement in the first few weeks after surgery. Physiotherapy and regular activity help restore strength, mobility, and function over the following months.

How long do modern hip and knee joint implants last?

Modern joint replacements are designed to be durable and can function well for 20 years or more, although longevity varies between patients.
